Welcome to SFS Counselling and Psychotherapy

A safe space to be yourself

Welcome. My name is Sam, and I am a Pluralistic Counsellor providing therapy for adults and young people. I offer both short and long term counselling, drawing on different therapeutic approaches — mainly Person-Centred, but also CBT, Psychodynamic and others.

About SFS Counselling

Behind the job title is me, Sam! I offer counselling that is real, down-to-earth and rooted in genuine understanding. Having faced my own mental health challenges, I don't just bring academic knowledge, but a lived experience. I know how important it is to feel truly heard and accepted, and how difficult it can be to take that first step into therapy. My approach is compassionate, non-judgmental, and centred around you.

As a Pluralistic Counsellor, I believe that there's no one-size fits all approach to therapy. Together, we'll create a way of working that's unique to you, - drawing on different therapeutic modalities, largely Person Centred but also, CBT, Psychodynamic and others. This flexibility means that sessions can be adapted to meet your individual needs and preferences, helping you find the path that feel right for you.

In our sessions, you'll find a warm, welcoming space where you can share openly - without pressure or pretence. My aim is to help you feel supported, understood and empowered to make the changes you need for your wellbeing.

I am a an English Speaking qualified counsellor with a Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and work with both Young People and Adults. I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). My background includes supporting mental health in schools, working alongside Young People through difficult times, and working with adults as they navigate life's challenges. I'm passionate about creating an inclusive practice and have particular experience working with neurodivergent clients, adapting my approach so that therapy feels comfortable and accessible.

A safe and supportive space

Counselling offers a welcoming environment where you can talk openly with someone who will listen with empathy and without judgment. It is a place where your thoughts and feelings can be shared in confidence, and where you will be supported to explore what matters most to you.

Support through challenges

Whether it’s anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or navigating life changes, many people find these experiences overwhelming. Together we can work to understand what’s happening, explore tools and approaches that fit you best, and find a way forward that feels manageable and supportive.

Finding a way that works for you

Taking the first steps into counselling can be daunting and as a Pluralistic Counsellor, I adapt therapy to meet your individual needs, giving you a voice in the path that your therapy takes — drawing on Person-Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic and other approaches. This flexibility allows us to create a way of working that feels right for you, helping you move towards greater wellbeing and healthier choices.

How I Can Support You

In a hectic, ever-changing world, where we can be fulfilling many roles, there can be times when we can feel overwhelmed and we can lose sight of who we really are.

  • Building confidence and self-esteem
  • Managing stress and anxiety
  • Coping with low mood or depression
  • Navigating relationship or family difficulties
  • Supporting mental health in young people
  • Finding clarity and direction in life
  • Feeling stuck and directionless
  • Adjusting to life changes or transitions
  • Understanding and embracing neurodivergence
  • Processing past experiences or trauma
  • Developing healthier coping strategies
  • Grief and loss
